You have made it through the design process, your web site has been constructed, packed with information about your products and services, tested to destruction and polished until it shines like a new pin.
A fast, reliable hosting service has been found to house your web pages and make them available to the world.
Now your web site needs a name – in jargonese you need a domain name which the rest of the world will type into their browser software in order to find your site on the world wide web. The domain name of this site is websiters.nl.
All domain names are controlled by relevant Naming Authorities who maintain a register of domain names and details of their users.

Choosing a Domain name - The Rules» There are many rules governing domain name registration which change depending on the country of origin and the naming authority with responsibility for a particular top level domain, but the most important are :-
An individual domain name must be unique in all the world, i.e. there can never be more than one domain called websiters.nl.
Generic Top-Level Domain i.e. those that end with .com, .net and .org are not linked to any particular country or territory which means they can be freely registered by any individual or organisation anywhere in the world.
Each country and territory in the world has it’s own Top-Level Domain. The Netherlands for instance uses .nl, France uses .fr, Denmark .dk and so on. Each country has it’s own rules about who can register.
Domain names can contain alpha and numerical digits, underscore ( _ ) and hyphen ( - ) characters.
If your chosen domain name contains multiple words i.e. webciters solutions.nl you may separate the words with hyphens i.e. webciters-solutions.com, as blanks and spaces are not allowed.
The first character of a domain name must be an alpha character i.e. A–Z or a-z.
Domain names are not case sensitive. websiters.nl is exactly the same as websiters.nl or websiters.nl.
Domain names can be subjected to legal jurisdiction regarding intellectual property rights, trademarks and brand names. If another organisation can prove it has a greater entitlement to a domain name you have registered you may lose it.
The registration fee charged by the naming authority responsible for your domain will normally cover your use of that domain for two years. If you wish to continue use of this domain after two years you will have to pay a renewal fee. If you choose not to pay the renewal fee you will lose your right to use the domain name and it will be made generally available for registration by another party.

Choosing a domain name - Guidelines» Domain name choice is entirely personal, so long as you stick to the rules, and the name you choose hasn’t already been registered by someone else. You may wish to consider some of the following guidelines :-
You may decide to choose a domain name which reflects the name of your organisation as we have done. Our company name is Web Citers – people know us by the same name so we chose websiters.nl.
Shorter domain names tend to work better in print. In a printed advert what would catch your eye more – a long domain name in tiny print , or a short domain name in big bold print?
You may decide to register a more generic domain name, which is more related to your product range than to your company name. Looking for a new car – try http://www.cars.com need a cd – have a look at http://www.cdnow.com These types of domain name are special because they are entered on-spec by potential customers looking for these particular product types. They can also produce more high ranking listings in search engine.
You may decide to register multiple domain names which suit your organisation and business type and have them all directed to a single web site. This acts as a catch-all for the on-spec surfers who are not quite sure of the domain name they should be using.

Domain name registration» If you would like to check the availability of a domain name, please let us know and we would search for you at no cost at all.
